These Shoes Are Made From Recycled Chewing Gum, Preventing Its Plastic From Polluting All Of Us
Did you know that chewing gum is nothing but flavoured synthetic rubber or plastic? Chew on that for a second, as lakhs of tonnes of gum pollutes our environment. But one shoe company is making a difference, recycling chewing gum into sneakers.
Did you know that chewing gum is nothing but flavoured synthetic rubber or in other words plastic? Chew on that for a second, as lakhs of tonnes of flavoured gum pollutes our environment.
But one shoe company is trying to change all of that, making a difference by recycling chewing gum into shoes we can all wear. Genius idea, right?
A London-based company has collaborated with a Netherlands-based group to come with a nice idea and turn all that discarded chewing gum into sturdy soles for a line of limited edition shoes, called Gumshoe.
The Gumshoe's sole is made of recyclable material, known as Gum-Tec, which is produced by Gumdrop, with at least 20 percent chewing gum mixed into the blend.
This initiative uses about 1kg of chewing gum for every four pairs of shoes.
According to an earlier report in April, the Gumshoe project claimed it's the world's first pair of shoes made from chewing gum.
Apart from the sole, where the recycled chewing gum is used in a stronger rubber blend, the rest of the shoe is made of leather.
The team says that the sole in smells of chewing gum, if you were to get really close and take a sniff at it. That's part of what makes the Gumshoe so unique.
Not just stopping at shoes, the people behind this initiative are waging a war on chewing gum-related pollution by launching a whole range of products made from gum. Stuff like pencils, erasers, rulers, rubber balls, throwing frisbees, lunch boxes and even guitar picks.
And if you feel like intentionally sticking some gum in your hair, there's also a recycled chewing gum comb you can buy from them.
