Singapore Has Become The First Country To Approve The Sale Of Lab-Grown Meat
Singapore has given US start-up Eat Just the greenlight to sell its lab-grown chicken meat, in what the firm says is the world's first regulatory approval for so-called clean meat that does not come from slaughtered animals.

In a first, Singapore has approved US start-up 'Eat Just', to sell its lab-grown chicken meat. The firm says this is going to the world's first regulatory approval for something like this. It is an initiative to have 'clean' meat which does not come from slaughtered animals.

Due to the concern for animal welfare. health and the environment, the demand for alternatives to regular meat is increasing. People are opting for more plant-based meat options which are popularised by Beyond Meat Inc and Impossible Foods.
However, clean or cultured meat, grown from animal muscle cells in a lab, is still at an early stage due to high production costs.
"The first-in-the-world regulatory allowance of real, high-quality meat created directly from animal cells for safe human consumption paves the way for a forthcoming small-scale commercial launch in Singapore," Eat Just said on Wednesday.
