Sardar Patel was supposed to be PM, no Congress committee favoured Nehru: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party’s approach to leadership selection and its adherence to democratic values. He was speaking during a discussion on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India.

“Out of 12 state Congress committees, all had agreed on the name of Sardar Patel. Not a single committee supported Nehru ji,” Modi said.

“According to the Constitution, Sardar Patel should have become the Prime Minister. But those who do not respect the Constitution of their own party, how can they accept the Constitution of the country?” he questioned.
