DeAndre Yedlin has praised Lionel Messi’s impact at Inter Miami after leading the MLS side to a third-straight win in the Leagues Cup.
Speaking to the Miami Herald, the USMNT defender lauded the Argentine’s sensational start to life in Florida, with Messi bagging five goals in three games for Inter Miami.
The forward bagged another brace last night as Inter Miami came out as victors in the Florida Derby against Orlando City, with a 3-1 win sending Messi and company to the Leagues Cup round of 16.
Yedlin, who handed Messi the captain’s armband, is no stranger to playing and competing with the world’s best. Yet even the 30-year-old has been left stunned by his new teammate’s impact at the club.
“Yedlin said when asked about Messi’s influence at Inter Miami: He gives everyone confidence around him. You know you can give him balls in difficult situations and he’ll make something out of it.
“On the flip side, for the teams we’re playing against it puts a little bit of fear in their eyes so they’re on their heels a bit more, dropping back and that gives us a little more space to play.”
Messi is only getting started at Inter Miami
Everybody knew Messi was going to take the US by storm at Inter Miami, yet few would have predicted the forward to turn around the worst side in MLS as quickly as he has.
Of course, the additional arrivals of Sergio Busquets and now Jordi Alba will help the Herons in their quest to become one of the best teams in North America, but Messi’s form has been nothing short of incredible.
Indeed, a Leagues Cup run is now firmly underway for Inter Miami, and many fans will be hopeful that Messi can push Martino’s side all the way to silverware in his first month in America.
