‘90 Day Fiance’ Star David Murphey Dead at 66 Years Old After Years of Health Issues
90 Day Fiancé alum David Murphey, known for his years-long overseas romance with his online girlfriend, Lana, died at the age of 66 after experiencing health issues for the last several years.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024,” his family confirmed via his verified Instagram profile on Wednesday, December 18. “He was 66 years old.”
The statement described the 90 Day Fiancé alum as “a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer,” who had recently “retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada, having also worked for H&R Block and IGT.”
“He was also well known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” the message continued. “His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans.”
David is survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera. Fans who wish to honor his memory are encouraged by his family to make a donation in his name to The Animal Foundation.
Both fans and 90 Day Fiancé alums rushed to the comment section to share their messages of condolences. “I am so sorry to see this he was a very wonderful man my deepest sympathy to his friends family and all who loved him,” Ella Johnson, who appeared on season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, wrote.

“My friend, rest in peace,” shared 90 Day Fiancé season 8 star Amira Lollysa. Meanwhile, Stephanie Matto from 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 4 expressed, “This is so sad.”
David was first introduced to viewers on season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, as he met his Ukrainian girlfriend for the first time. The pair had been speaking online for seven years after initially meeting on the Eastern European dating app, Anastasia Date.
Throughout their relationship, David estimated spending around 5,000 hours communicating with Lana, which cost him over $100,000 due to the site’s fees for each message and per-minute charges during live chats. He also shared that he had attempted to meet Lana in person three times, but she stood him up each time.
“The first time, she did stand me up. Second time, her brother died. Third time, she had a medical issue. She had to go have surgery and it put her out of commission for three weeks,” David said about her reasons for not showing up.
David proposed to Lana on his fifth trip to meet her, just before heading back to the United States, and she accepted. However, despite their plans to begin the K-1 visa process, the couple had already broken up by the time they appeared for the tell-all.
“She told me a couple weeks ago that all she wanted was a white picket fence and a simple life with me, traveling in the RV. She loves that idea, but right now, today, I think we’re not together,” David told the camera, admitting they haven’t spoken in six days. “That’s not saying we won’t be together in the future, but we’re not together [now],” he clarified.
