A fundraiser launched to help support the family of Mirjana Pap following her tragic passing has raised over €22,000.

On Sunday, Gardaí launched a missing person appeal for 58-year-old Mirjana, who was from Croatia but had been living in Athlone, Co Westmeath, but this was sadly stood down on Monday following a major search when her body was found.

The case of her death was upgraded to murder on New Year’s Eve after a post-mortem carried out at University Hospital Galway established she died from an assault.

The Athlone community has come together to help support Mirjana’s family during this difficult time, with a fundraiser launched to help cover funeral expenses and to honour her memory.

“In this difficult time, we are coming together to support the family in covering funeral expenses and honouring her memory.

“Your contributions will help ensure that Mirjana is laid to rest with the dignity and love she deserves. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.”

So far the GoFundMe has raised an incredible €22,331 out of the target of €26,000. To donate to the fundraiser, head here.

The statement added: “Gardaí are particularly interested in the movements of a silver 08G registered Peugeot 207 on Saturday 28 December 2024 between 11am and 12 noon.

“The car is understood to have travelled from Beechville estate, Athlone onto the N6 motorway (west bound) from junction 11 to junction 13 before continuing on the R362 from Monksland to Bealnaulla.

“Motorists who travelled along these routes within this timeframe are asked to provide Gardaí with dash-cam footage.”
