More than 1,200 children’s toys have been recalled in Ireland as they contain dangerous levels of chemicals.
Smyths Toys is carrying out a voluntary recall of 1,260 of the IMC Cry Babies Nala dolls sold here due to the presence of a high level of phthalates.
Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastic and vinyl.
This product has been on sale in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom in Smyths Toys outlets.
This recall affects the following serial numbers: 18/10657/-36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46.
A recall notice posted on the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says: “Smyths Toys is carrying out a voluntary recall of toy product IMC Cry Babies Nala doll.
“This toy has been recalled due to the level of phthalates it contains.
“This product has been on sale in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom in various Smyths Toys outlets.
“Approximately 1260 units have been sold in the Republic of Ireland.
“First, you should identify the serial number of your product. If your product has one of the serial numbers detailed above, you should stop using the product immediately.
“Return the product and packaging to a Smyths Toys store.
“The retailer will be aware of the recall and a refund will be offered.
“If you purchased this product online, you can call Smyths Toys customer service on (091) 336 890.”
Smyths says the serial number can be found in the battery compartment of the doll.
The firm added: "Please return the item to a local Smyths Toys Store, where a refund will be issued.
"Apologies for any inconvenience caused."
