RTÉ viewers have praised “national treasure” Garron Noone following his appearance on the Late Late Show this Friday night.
The musician and comedian, who has garnered a massive following on TikTok for his hilarious videos over the last year, chatted with host Patrick Kielty about social media and his rise to fame, as well as playing a stunning tune.
As well as sharing stories about his comedy, the funnyman candidly opened up about suffering from agoraphobia and how he had to deal with constant panic attacks in recent years.
Thankfully, Garron says he is in a much better position now and shared that he wants people to be more open about their feelings.
Garron said: "I used to suffer from agoraphobia. I started having panic attacks when I was 16; one of my friends died so that started it off. Eventually they got worse, and I couldn't leave house without [having] a panic attack.
"I spent five years house bound. I worked at a phone shop, I would go there and have panic attacks and I wouldn't do any socialising."
He continued: "For many years, I felt my life wouldn't go anywhere and I wouldn't have a life that was going to be worth living. I felt pretty hopeless. But life has given me so much and I'm doing things now I never thought I would be able to do.
"Severe anxiety has become a lot more common since lockdowns. People who suffer from it usually tend to keep to themselves. I couldn't find anyone to relate to. But you can get through it and get better. It takes time but it has definitely gotten better for me, for sure."
The pair also discussed Garron’s videos, and what he thought people from the USA might believe Irish people are like based off of the clips.
Patrick asked the Mayo man: “What do you think your followers around the world think of Irish people from watching your stuff?
Garron joked: “They definitely think we are hungry, they are not wrong about that!
“I think they get a good impression of, sort of our, we banter with each other, that sort of thing.
“Americans definitely are much nicer to each other than we are. So they come over and they really appreciate that they know if someone makes fun of them, they don’t hate them and actually if they don't make fun of them, that's when you need to worry.
“If somebody's very nice to you, that’s time to worry!
The conversation then turned to the origin of the comedian and musician's now iconic catchphrase.
Patrick asked: “We all know your catchphrase “Follow me, I'm delicious”. Was there a lot of thought put into that Garron?
“Like everything else I do, absolutely not! When I started making TikToks I started doing cereal reviews and it was literally me eating the entire bowl of cereal.
“So it's about 25 minute clips cut up in one minute segments. Me just eating cereal going, ‘that spoons nice now, oh it’s starting to get soggy, doesn’t have longevity’, complete guff, as I do.
“And I decided I was going to make videos every day when people started watching them, and some of them are crap. So one day, I said ‘Oh this is an awful video, I’m just going to say something random at the end’ and I went, ‘Follow me, I'm delicious’”.
“And the rest is history,” host Patrick replied.
Viewers praised the TikTok star for both his charming personality and his amazing singing voice, showering compliments on the funnyman who they called a “national treasure”.
“Garron is absolutely class,” one viewer wrote. “Garron is a National Treasure,” another added, while a third agreed: “Garron Noone is a national treasure.”
“Nice chap is Garron Noone, good luck with all the success,” one more praised.
While a fifth viewer shared: “Watching Garron Noone on the Late Late Show - He just comes across as one of the most genuine and decent people in the public sphere - Delighted he has achieved what he has because he brings so much positivity just by being himself”.
Another lauded his singing: “Garron Noone is so funny on TikTok but also soooo talented.. go you!!!”
