A hay fire west of Sterling required a massive response from area firefighting crews Monday.
According to the Logan County Office of Emergency Management, all mutual aid agencies in the county responded to assist with the fire, which broke out Monday afternoon, joined by the New Raymer Fire Department and the state Division of Fire Prevention and Control. The fire was located on County Road 29, which was closed, and resulted in a closure of nearby Highway 14 as well due to firefighting activities.
The Sterling Fire Department requested in a Facebook post that the public avoid the area.
The fire happened in the midst of a red flag warning for Logan County due to high winds and dry conditions. Breezy conditions are expected to continue Tuesday, with gusts up to 25 mph possible, according to the National Weather Service.
