Customer: I bought a motion sensor 3-way light switch from Ecoeler. I intend ti introduce the switch to a circuit that has a light between the switches, and the second switch will remain a 3-way toggle switch. The wiring instructions that come with
Contractor's Assistant: How many switch wires are there, and what colors are they?
Customer: The wiring instructions with the switch only show how yo wire it to a "standard 3-wY light switch" installation. I need help to map the wiring instructions to my particular circuit.
Contractor's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your lighting? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I just bought the switch.
Contractor's Assistant: Is there anything else the Electrician should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: Can I attach anything to this chat to further explain the wiring situation?

Hi, this is Brad. I will try to help with this. That sounds frustrating, hopefully we can get this sorted out quickly. Please give me a moment to review the above again. In the meantime, you will probably receive a solicitation for a phone call. That is auto generated from the website and designed to appear to come from me but it is not and I won’t even see it. Please disregard. Thanks in advance!
please attach pictures whenever possible. For starters, please add pictures of the back of the switch and the wall box wiring. Thanks again.
Customer
Hi Brad. Here is the wiring diagram that came with the ECOELER 3-way switch. But it ONLY shows how to introduce the switch to a "standard 3-way light switch circuit"But my circuit is a "3-way light switch circuit with the light between the switches".I need help in mapping my circuit to the EVOELER instructions.

Customer
Please ignore the first image. It is for two sensor switches. That is not my application.
Thanks for the pictures. A few minutes while I review, please.
This should be relatively quick to figure out. Please add a picture of the existing house switch box wiring where the new switch will be installed. Do you have pictures of the old switch wiring, by chance.
Customer
Give me a moment
Solute thing. Take your time, please.
Customer
Here is the toggle switch that will remain in the circuit.

You can see from one of the instruction pictures (for the "standard" 3-way circuit and remaining second toggle switch thatvthectraveler and line are connected. That is very odd to me, and may not be the correct wiring if the circuit is not "standard", but instead is a "3-way circuit with light between the switches"
Customer
that the traveler and line wires are connected at the toggle switch
Ok, no problem. Just a few minutes, please.
Customer
Sure
this might not make sense at first but this is what needs to happen:Connect BOTH black wires from the existing switch to the black wire on the new switch (three wires total).Connect the red wire to the blue wire. Here’s the hard part:
The white wires need to be connected together. We can address that at the end after the other stuff is done if it doesn’t make sense. Sound good?
Customer
Can you draw the circuit?
The white from the new switch needs to connect with the existing whites. Either it will fit in that connection or you will have to pull them out and make a pigtail. Know what I mean?
Draw the circuit? Connect three black wires together. Then connect blue to red. Finally, whites together.
Customer
I know how to create a pigtail.but there are two white wires. One feeds the outlet, the other feeds the light (see picture of "3-way circuit with light between the switches".I can't connect the whites together any more than they already are connected at the outlet.
Customer
In you drawing, where does the white from the outlet load go?
Is there a white wire on the new switch?
Customer
Hi
Customer
Are you saying add a white to the load side of the outlet and connect it to the white wire of the sensor switch?
Ok, that white wire needs to be tied into the white wires on the adjacent outlet. Here is an image of a “pigtail.” The arrow points to the pigtail. The two from the outlet will be pulled out and then two (2) pigtails will be added; one for the outlet and one for the new switch. Does that make sense?
essentially, that is what I am saying.
Customer
that makes more sense. But just to clarify, ill be creating a pigtail to feed the line side of the outlet AND the white wire of the new sensor switch. Correct?
Customer
Nothing will be tied to the load side of the outlet
Customer
Or is adding a white wire to the load side of the outlet the same as creating a pigtail?
Correct, all from the line side. Load will remain taped and unused.
Customer
Ok. Give me a few minutes please to try this
Sure, no problem. Take your time. If when you are done and by chance it does not work, please add one photo from out just a bit so the whole scenario is visible.
Customer
I'm almost done. But your instructions leave the red wire from the sensor switch without a connection. Is that the intent?
Sorry I failed to mention that. For your application, the red will not be used.
Customer
I hope you can see the wiring in this picture. The toggle switch works, but the sensor switch does not work.
Customer
Hers another take...
Is this a smart switch that requires Wi-Fi?
Other than that, my first thought with the pictures was that yellow wire nuts are a bit small for three wires. It is possible there is a loose connection in one of those splices.
Customer
Not a smart wi-fi seasons or switch.
Ok, gotcha. Please check the connections.
Customer
You are the professional, but is there someplace the red wire from the switch should connect? The sensor swith is not showing any signs of being powered up.
Do you have a multimeter to check voltage at the switch?
Customer
What wires "should" be receiving voltage?
Great question and I’m sorry I left that out of my last. 120 volts should be present between black and white wires.
Customer
Yup. 120v between blacks & whites
Customer
But this hanging red wire is staring at me. I can't help but think it needs to be connected somewhere
I followed the manufacturer’s recommendations and I understand your concern about the red wire. It is not used in every application. Being there are multiple splices for the blacks and whites, I’m thinking there is a loose connection based on my above assessment of the yellow wire nuts.
Customer
Ok, I'll remake the wire nuts connections.
Do you have any others than the yellows?
Customer
Ok, all 2-wire connections kept yellow nuts, 3-wire connections went to red nuts, and ground multi-wire connection stayed at ultra-jumbo blue nut.But no change.I did notice, however, that when I removed the cover to set the sensor settings, that the green led flases 6 times, then pauses, before flashing 6 times again, then pausing and repeating.
That sounds promising, actually.
Customer
FYI...In just screwing around, I connected red to red and left blue disconnected. But no change. Then I connected red & blue to red, but no change still.
I’m sorry to hear that. The flashing green lights mean the switch had proper power.
Customer
do you think you're at a dead end?
I don’t think so. It was wired per the manual and there were green lights but now I’m not sure how it is wired.
It is a motion sensor, remember. So, it might have been working the whole time but without giving it time to turn off, it was hard to test.
Customer
I hear you, but I was testing using the manual on/off button, which should work at all times, but it was not working.
Ok, but when 120 volts are present and there are flashing green lights but it is not working, the switch is likely faulty.
Customer
I'll consider that. Thanks.

Hello again. Has this been resolved? Please let me know if I may be of further assistance. Thanks and have a great one!
