Hello and thanks for using Just Answer.

I will try my best to help you with your question.

Do you have manual 3 knob AC controls or Electronic with digital display AC controls?

Customer
I have the haynes manual and the orignal ford schymatic

That is great, they will help.

But do you have manual 3 knob AC controls or Electronic with digital display AC controls?

The electrical systems are a bit different.

Customer
three knob controls,sorry

Ok.

First check fuse #18 in the dash fuse box. With the key turned on, make sure it has power on both sides of the fuse.
Then with the engine on and the AC switched to NORM or MAX, check for power on the cycle switch. There is a PURPLE wire, make sure you have power on that wire.

Customer
I checked both circuits, I have 13 volts to the clutch when system is on

If you have 13 volts to the AC clutch when the ac is turned on, but the compressor will not engage, check and make sure you have a good ground on the other wire at the compressor clutch.

If you got a good ground, then the compressor clutch field coil has failed and will not draw the compressor clutch to the pulley to engage the compressor.

Customer
after rechecking voltage at the clutch there is no voltage to the clutch.
Customer
I didn't receive an answer to the p[revious question

Sorry, had family obligations last night.

If you have no power at the clutch, we will need to see of you are getting power through the cycle switch and the high pressure switch.

If you have a short piece of spare wire about 3" long, you can use it as a jumper in the cycle switch connector and the high pressure switch.

Unplug the cycle switch and place the wire, (strip the ends first to expose the wire inside) and place it into the connector for the 2 wire. make a bridge between the 2 wire pins. See if the compressor comes on or has power. Then do the same to the high pressure switch. Leave the jumper wire in the cycle switch, make a new one for the high side switch. Do the same and see if the compressor comes on or you have power at the compressor.

Customer
Jumpered the low pressure switch, compressor engaged no reading on gauge, reconnected cycle switch clutch willn't engauge but there is pressure on the low side now what.

If there is no pressure on the guage, the system is low on freon. Also make sure the guage is hooked up to the port all the way.

If the system is too low, the compressor will not come on.

Customer
I replaced the cycle switch that was problem. Thanks for all your help.
Your very welcome.
