Marvel’s What If Season 2 Episode 5 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

The fifth episode of Marvel’s What If Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading. Check out my spoiler-free review of Marvel’s What If Season 2 here.
The synopsis reads:
Season two of “What If…?” continues the journey as The Watcher (voice of Jeffrey Wright) guides viewers through the vast Multiverse, introducing brand-new and familiar faces from the MCU. The series questions, revisits and twists classic Marvel Cinematic Universe moments with an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles.

The episode begins with the version of 2012’s The Avengers but with Captain Carter instead.
The rest of the episode is essentially a retelling of 2014’s Captain America The Winter Soldier, but with Steve Roger’s HYDRA Stomper in place of Bucky.
Meanwhile, in this universe, Bucky Barnes is now the Secretary Of the World Security Council and SHIELD.
In 2021’s Black Widow, it was Rachel Weisz who played Melina Vostokoff.
The episode ends with Steve sacrificing himself by taking out the Red Room along with Melina.
And it was these two, whoever they are. They’re credited as Councilman Singh and Wanda-Merlin, with Elizabeth Olsen voicing the latter.
