Doctors baffled by recovery of teen injured in Adventureland accident
We're hearing from the Jaramillo family for the first time since a deadly accident at Adventureland.
They say their son's recovery is baffling his doctors. After being pinned underwater for 10 minutes after a Raging River raft flipped, David Jr.'s motor functions are continuing to improve.
The family was celebrating David's birthday over the Fourth of July weekend. Their son, Michael, died from his injuries. He was 11 years old.
David Jr. was seriously injured and was released from the hospital early this month.
David Sr. said his recovery is a miracle.
"He was under the water the longest, the last one out. It was like way over 10 minutes so there were… there's no way he's gonna have the mind like he used to. So, there...we might have been taking care of him the rest of his life… And 30 days later, he walks out and asks for pizza," he said.
The Jaramillo family spends their weeks at the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines while David Jr. undergoes physical therapy.
