Our Independent program is designed for beginner swimmers aged three years old and older, as well as children new to swimming.
We provide a relaxed and safe atmosphere for children to develop their capabilities and confidence in the water. Our specially-trained swim teachers know exactly when to reassure and when to extend students so that they can experience amazing results!
All beginner lessons take place in shallow water. This helps children feel safer and more in control by allowing them to touch the bottom. It also reduces the need for flotation aids, enabling children to understand how their bodies respond to water without them (over relying on flotation aids can create a false sense of security).
Independent swimming lesson levels
At Kingswim, we divide our learn to swim programs into stages called K-levels. These K-levels ensure children continually develop their skills and confidence as they progress through the program. Our Independent program is divided into levels K1, K2, K3 and K4.

How we teach
We want every child to become the best swimmer they can be.
Our teaching style focuses on ensuring children feel safe and supported in the water. All of our teachers follow the same lesson plan to ensure consistency.
We also teach in small class sizes, creating a nurturing environment where every child receives the close attention and guidance they need to develop their skills.
To support your child during lessons, our teachers may use ‘hands-on corrections’. This is where they use their hands to guide your child into the correct swimming position and keep them safe.
Our aim is to help your child grow more confident and capable in the water, one lesson at a time.
Survival swimming skills
We incorporate survival swimming skills into every lesson at Kingswim – from our Foundation programs right up to our Graduate and Squad programs.
Each week, your child has the opportunity to learn and practise essential swimming skills that will help them become stronger and safer in the water.
We also have dedicated survival weeks, where children learn specific lifesaving skills appropriate to their age and ability level. This includes safe entries and exits, rescue techniques, survival strokes and more.
By focusing on survival swimming skills, our lessons help kids grow into confident swimmers who know how to be safer in and around water.

Common questions
-
Are swimming lessons good for toddlers?
Yes, swimming lessons are a fantastic way to introduce your toddler to the water. Lessons teach important water safety skills, as well as basic swimming techniques to prepare your child for learning more complex swimming techniques when they're a little older. The sooner your toddler starts lessons, the sooner they'll start feeling happy, confident and comfortable in the water.
Research has also shown that children who learn to swim at a young age reach many early childhood developmental milestones earlier than the norm. This includes not just swimming capability, but literacy, numeracy, social and emotional measures as well. This makes swimming lessons for kids and toddlers an excellent way to give your child the greatest opportunity to thrive in life. It's why at Kingswim, we believe in the importance of starting swimming lessons young.

Do you have any school holiday programs?
We sure do! Our Fast Track holiday program is an intensive program held in the school holidays, usually for four days. It’s a fun way to get active during the holidays and learn water safety skills while getting some extra practise in the pool. The intensive nature of the program helps children focus on their technique to progress to the next level. It's also a great way to experience the Kingswim program for the first time.
