GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The City of Grand Junction will begin the final phase of installing new pay stations for downtown parking lots the week of Jan. 13th.

Parking Enforcement will additionally be implementing new hours for parking downtown. The City says these improvements will provide easier access for those seeking parking while shopping, dining, or doing business downtown.

The following changes include:

  • 4-hour parking will be allowed in lots 400, 500, and 600 of Colorado Ave. and at the DMV’s north and south lot
  • 10-hour parking for users with a 10-hour parking permit in both 600 Rood Ave and 500 Ute Ave. (Ten-hour permit holders may only park in designated ten-hour parking metered spaces or lots)

Parking enforcement will begin Jan. 27th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday for the newly implemented changes.

The City stated in a press release that these adjustments will accommodate ten-hour permit parking, which previously was only monitored for eight hours, to ensure designated parking areas for long-term guests, and provide extended safety for downtown visitors in the evening.

“These adjustments are not only focused on current parking needs in the downtown area but consider the anticipated future demands on our parking system,” said General Services Director, Jay Valentine. “The updates ensure a more efficient and accessible parking system, supporting the vibrancy and economic success of our downtown community” continued Valentine.

Parking fees are tiered so those meters closer to downtown are more expensive which means those that are willing to walk a little further will benefit by paying a little less.

Parking will continue to be free on weekends, holidays, and outside of monitored hours.
