Hillsboro Hops break ground on $120M new stadium, event venue
HILLSBORO Ore. (KPTV) - The Hillsboro Hops broke ground Thursday on a new ballpark in Hillsboro.
The construction of the new stadium will create more than 1,200 new jobs - exciting news for the City of Hillsboro. And once it’s complete, the city will have a brand-new ballpark and the Hops will have a brand-new home.
But officials say it will be so much more than just a baseball stadium. They’re calling it a large venue space that will act as a dynamic community gathering place and will benefit the region for years.

Hillsboro Hops general manager K.L. Wombacher said being able to keep Minor League Baseball in Hillsboro and keeping the beloved Hillsboro Hops is what it’s all about.
“I just want everyone to know we are so grateful for this fan base we have here,” Wombacher said. “We’re so grateful for the staff we have, the best front office, I am so luckily to work with them. And this ballpark is for you all. This is a community asset, community gym, this is going to be the best facility in the country. I promise you because of the we way we operate it. Fan-first attitude, fan-first approach, affordable entertainment, first-class memories. Go Hops!”
The nearly 300,000-square-foot ballpark will feature three levels with tons of space for circulation, seating, and a party deck. The outdoor area will include an outfield berm seating area, a kids play zone, a picnic area and a beer garden.
There will also be a 32-foot canopy to protect guests from the elements year-round.
And in terms of capacity, the space can hold 6,000 guests for baseball games and approximately 7,000 for events such as concerts, food festivals and farmers markets.
The $120 million project is being funded through a combination of public and private sources and is expected to be completed in 2026.
