Introducing Facilities Inside the Dam
Emergency spillway facility
The emergency spillway is the discharge facility installed near the top of the dam body. Unlike the regular use spillway facilities, it is an overflow type system that has no gate and is used to discharge water after it has been initially held in the crest gate.
Used at Such Times
In cases where typhoon or heavy rainfall cause the water level of Miyagase Dam to suddenly rise, this facility is used to discharge the portion of the design flood discharge that exceeds the maximum discharge flow (355m³ (Note 1) per second ) of the regular use spillway facilities. This is not normally used. At Miyagase Dam, it has only been used for conducting trial discharge.
(Note 1) Reference value: A 25m swimming pool at an elementary school has capacity of 375m³
