The C. D. Schaaff Stahlwarenfabrik company began in 1871. It registered in Solingen on January 10, 1887. In 1920, Schaaff specialized in the manufacturing of knives and scissors. The owners were listed as C. D. Schaaff and Ewald Spitzer. E. Spitzer, who owned "Ewald Spitzer Perfectum-Stahlwarenfabrik," reasonably brought his "Perfectum" brand name into the partnership, as it can be seen on their advertisements and products. A 1922 advertisement features a full-page ad in Solingen und sein Industriebezirk. Their products are listed in: German, English, French and Spanish (for export) as: "table knives, kitchen, bread and butchers' knives, all types of pocket and penknives, all kinds of scissors, shears, razors, manicure sets, hair clippers, cutlery, surgical instruments, corkscrews, sugar tongs, carving sets and more." From 1928 to 1930, Alex Schaaff was listed as the owner. Come 1935, the company received its RZM license number M7/56 and was located on Gerichtstraße 5. During the Third Reich era, HJ knives and SA/NSKK daggers were manufactured. By 1939, C. R. Hartmann controlled the business and operations. Schaaff continued to make tableware and hunting knives after 1945. Come 1975, the company was located in Solingen-Wald on Wittkuller Straße. Contemporary bread and chef knives have been observed with the trawlerman smoking a pipe and/or marked "E. Spitzer Solingen."
