Wes's review of Rob Taylor
Ideal for:
Live music can enhance any event or special occasion making it a wonderful experience for everyone involved. With a varied repertoire of hits spanning a diverse range of genres, solo guitarists can add sophistication and class to any event, playing classical music or jazz. They can also perform more modern popular songs, for a more up set. A perfect entertainment choice ideal for those searching for reasonably priced background entertainment, or a lively set of pop covers.
Guitarists will be ideal for virtually any event, from weddings and black-tie corporate events, to birthday parties and other functions.
When booking Guitarists:
When searching for a professional guitarist, try to find live recordings and videos of past performances, so you get a complete impression of how they sound live, and whether they are suitable for your event. It’s also important that you read their testimonials and reviews to see how their previous clients felt about their performances. Once you’ve found a guitarist that's suitable, you should discuss your event in detail, including any requests you want them to play. Mention some artists and songs you have in mind so that it’s clear what you looking for.
All professional bands and musicians will have a technical rider that details what they need to be able to perform at any event. For a solo guitarist you will have to provide a series of power sockets so that they can power their amplification. Other requirements listed on a rider may include a meal, a space to change clothes or leave valuable belongings and a suitable parking space.
Prices for Guitarists:
Quotes will vary from musician to musician, but solo guitarists will generally charge a minimum of £150. This will change, depending on when your event is, how long it is and how far away from the musicians' base it is. If you're looking to cut down on travel costs, use the "advanced search" feature to find guitarists near you.
About Guitarists:
Some guitarists will specialise in one particular genre, but most will try and be as flexible as they can when it comes to their repertoire. This means you will probably hear acoustic guitar classics by the likes of The Beatles, Van Morrison or James Taylor as well as more modern hits by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift or Mumford & Sons.
If they perform jazz, you might hear "reel book" tunes or standards like "Fly Me To The Moon", "Autumn Leaves" or "All Of Me". If you have any special requests, for a wedding ceremony or first dance for instance, then make sure you speak to your musician as far in advance as you can, in order to ensure they have adequate time to learn the song and rehearse it.
Some manufacturers of guitars that we like are: Fender, Gibson and Martin.
