Our pick of the best hotels for your Christmas break

Why book a Christmas hotel break?

Thinking about booking a Christmas break? The most wonderful time of year is also a wonderful time to get away. Lobbies are decorated with extravagant Christmas trees and streets are scented with wafts of mulled wine and gingerbread from bustling Christmas markets.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic adults-only escape, a family getaway or a dog-friendly stay, we’ve got the Christmas hotel breaks to get you in the festive spirit. Celebrate Christmas with your favourite people in your favourite place, or in an exciting new one. A Christmas break makes a perfect gift for that special someone, so treat your other half, friend or whole family to a few days away, in the UK or abroad.

Get away for Christmas Day, between Christmas and New Year, or extend your break all the way to the New Year and check out our range of New Year’s Eve hotels. And there’s no such thing as too late around here. We’ve got a huge range of Christmas hotels and more – whether you’re looking ahead in summer, or booking on Boxing Day.

Types of Christmas breaks

Whatever kind of Christmas break you’re looking for, we’ve got it. Desperate for a bit of luxury to end the year? It’s a great time to splash out on a hot tub hotel, or a luxury spa getaway. But we’re LateRooms, so we’ve got hotels for every budget and need. So, if you’re after a cheap Christmas break, we’ve got your back, too.

Romantic Christmas getaways are popular. We’ve got hotels in all sorts of locations, so you can go Christmas shopping in the city, or keep things quiet with a Christmas Day stroll and pub drinks in the countryside. Or, you can use the Christmas holidays to bring together family members from all over the country and meet in one place. And the four-legged friends in your family don’t have to miss out, either. Dog-friendly Christmas breaks are also an option, with our pet-friendly hotels.

What’s more, we know plans can easily change, so that’s why we offer lots of hotels with free cancellation.

Where is good to go for a Christmas break?

You might be wondering where is best to spend Christmas in the UK, or abroad? We’ve got the lowdown on some of the best places to get cosy for Christmas.

UK Christmas breaks

The UK’s cosy villages and bright-eyed cities look their best at Christmas, so there’s no better time to visit. Picture this – strolling hand-in-hand through one of the UK’s Christmas markets, wrapping up warm for a frosty dog walk, or snuggling up in a traditional pub next to a roaring open fire.

London

Spend your days shopping in Hamleys or wandering Winter Wonderland. And, come evening, check out the displays along Oxford Street, Carnaby Street and Bond Street. The luxury boutiques have their own lavish Christmas displays, too.

Edinburgh

Christmas city breaks in Scotland centre on Edinburgh. The capital’s botanical gardens and castle light up with festive decorations. There’s ice-skating at St Andrew Square. And if you stay until New Year’s Eve, there are Hogmanay celebrations to join in with.

Cornwall

If you’d like to see Cornwall minus the crowds, go for a Christmas break by the sea. The region’s just charming at this time of year. Fowey puts on a great Christmas market, the Eden Project hosts an ice rink and Mousehole’s illuminated harbour is a magical sight.

York

York’s a pretty city at any time of year. But Christmas is when it really shines. Its award-winning Christmas market kicks off from mid-November, when alpine chalets line up near the Shambles – one of the best-preserved Medieval shopping streets in Europe.

Lake District

The Lake District’s hotels, pubs and tea rooms are even cosier at Christmas. Open fires and a warm welcome await you, as the summer crowds fizzle out. Plus, the national park’s peaks and valleys often get a dusting of snow, so the views are picturesque.

Christmas breaks abroad

If you fancy taking your festive getaway further afield, we can help with that too. Our range of hotels means you can defrost in Dubai, pound the pavements in Paris, or see in a white Christmas in Switzerland.

Dubai

Swap mulled wine by the fire for mojitos at a beach bar with a Christmas break in Dubai. While most European countries get chilly for Christmas, December’s a great time to visit Dubai, when the weather’s hot, but not scorching – think late 20s.

New York

There’s a reason the Big Apple features in so many Christmas films – think Home Alone II, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street. Tour the Fifth Avenue window displays, ice skate at Rockefeller Center, or head out to Brooklyn to see the famous Dyker Heights lights.

Paris

Whether you’re picturing yourself shopping in Galeries Lafayette, stuffing your face with raclette, or snapping photos of the Eiffel Tower’s festive lights, our Paris hotels put you within easy reach of it all. We’ve even got hotels near Disneyland® Paris.

Berlin

Nowhere does Christmas market breaks better than Germany. So if you want to experience the real deal, try cities like Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Berlin has over 100 Christmas markets, complete with funfairs, ice rinks and market stalls.

Vienna

In Austria, you can glug punch and scoff sausages at the Christmas markets in Vienna. There’s one right outside the Upper Belvedere Palace. If you stand in front of the lake, you can see the Baroque building’s Christmas lights reflected in the water.
