08/26 - 1:30 PM Football Final Wilson Area 43 Pen Argyl 8
Wilson football coach Chris Labatch knows what it feels like to win in a Warriors uniform.
But the former all-state linebacker on the Warriors' 2006 state championship team experienced winning as a Warriors head coach for the first time on Saturday afternoon when Wilson rolled to a 43-8 road win over Pen Argyl to snap a 15-game losing streak for the program.
After the victory, the Warriors decided to go back to a special time for the program when winning was a lot more common.
"They've been asking me since all the offseason. They ask for our highlight films, like the old ones with Tyler Smith and D.J. (Lenehan) and they ask for all them," Labatch said. "And they always saw when Wilson won a game, they did jumping jacks. They kept asking me, 'coach, when we win, we're doing jumping jacks when we win.' I was like, 'hey, if you win, you get to do them.' And they got to do them on The Hill on a Saturday afternoon, which is a great feeling."
Wilson jumped out to a 29-0 halftime lead and didn't look back.
Warriors senior Job Goodman tied a program record with five touchdowns, running for three and adding two touchdown catches.
Fellow senior Cam Clark passed for two touchdowns and added a rushing score for the Warriors, who will look to go to 2-0 for the first time since 2009 when they host Palisades on Saturday.
"That's great. It's a new tradition we started this year. Hope to carry it on for many more games this season," Goodman said of the jumping-jack celebration.
"It feels amazing. Hopefully more start falling and hopefully just lead to one after another," Clark said of the victory and the potential for more.
