A Warren County middle school was under a brief lockdown Tuesday morning as officials confronted and detained a student suspected of having a weapon.
In a joint statement released around 9 a.m., police and school officials in the Warren Hills Regional School District reassured the community that there was no imminent threat.
They stated that administrators at Warren Hills Middle School were told around 7:30 a.m. that a student may have a weapon and was “agitated” on the morning bus ride. Staff confronted the student, who fled and was detained about a mile away by 8 a.m.
“All students are safe, there were no injuries in the building or in the community,” the statement concluded. “There is no threat to the surrounding community and the investigation is ongoing.”
It is not clear if there ever was any weapon. Police and school leaders did not immediately return requests for more information.
The Warren Hills district consists of a middle school and high school serving about 1,700 total students from Franklin, Mansfield, Oxford and Washington townships and Washington Borough.
