Lehigh Valley weather: Heavy rain in forecast leads to flash flood watch

The Lehigh Valley region is included in a flash flood watch in effect Friday afternoon through late Saturday night, the National Weather Service said Thursday.

“A slow-moving frontal boundary will move into a warm and very humid air mass by Friday afternoon,” the advisory states. “This will likely trigger multiple rounds of thunderstorms from Friday afternoon through much of Saturday.

“Storms are likely to be slow-moving and produce torrential rain. A general 1 to 3 inches of rain is forecast, but locally higher totals over 5 inches are possible.”

All that rain, combined with the heavy rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Henri last weekend, could lead to flash flooding, the weather service says.

The watch covers eastern Pennsylvania including Lehigh and Northampton counties, Warren and Hunterdon counties and other parts of New Jersey and northern Delaware.
