There is a slight change. The current cognate is being replaced by the new Interdisciplinary Business Cognate. The revised cognate requires students to take 12 credit hours (four three-credit courses) at the 300- and 400-level from any program in the School of Business rather than any four classes.

I noticed my DCP says Finance Cognate, but the new DCP has Finance Concentration. Why the difference?

Cognates in the Liberty system are five or fewer classes. Concentrations are six or more classes. The new DCP contains a sixth class, BUSI 460 Advanced Financial Management.

If I am on the old DCP, should I take BUSI 460 as an elective?

You do not have to take BUSI 460 if you are on the old DCP, but you may benefit from doing so. We recommend you talk with your advisor to discuss this option.

The catalog currently shows the prerequisite for BUSI 405 as MATH 201 or BUSI 230, but this list shows BUSI 205. Which is correct?

With the current DCP, we recommend you take BUSI 230. Students on the new DCP will take BUSI 205.

Yes, you can enroll in BUSI 457 if you have completed BUSI 230 or BUSI 305 and BUSI 428 or BUSI 449.

BUSI 342 has a new prerequisite of BUSI 105, and the BUSI 343 class has new prerequisites of BUSI 342 and ACCT 211. If you continue with the previous DCP, you will stay with the prior prerequisites.

The new DCP, at the cognate level, differs slightly from the current DCP. The current DCP does not have a cognate and does not mandate which courses a student must take to complete the degree. The new cognate, called the Interdisciplinary Business Cognate, requires students to take twelve credits (typically four courses) of 300- or 400-level courses from within the School of Business.

If I haven’t taken BUSI 467 can I still take BUSI 453?

Yes, you may still enroll in BUSI 453 in Spring 2024 if you have completed BUSI 447 in Fall 2023 or earlier.

Beginning with Spring 2025, you will need to successfully complete BUSI 447 and BUSI 467 to be prepared for BUSI 453. If you choose to stay on the current DCP, we strongly recommend you take BUSI 467 to fulfill one of your electives.
