Zimbabwe collaborates with Limpopo province in celebrating cultural diversity
The month of September is set aside by the national government to celebrate individual cultures that contributed to the rainbow nation of rich diverse heritage in the country. To observe this important day in the calendar month, this year’ s Heritage Day was commemorated at Zwigodini Village in Musina.
The celebration commenced with the pride march displaying African Flags held by individuals representing South African cultures.
The Heritage Day is set to celebrate diverse cultures, heritage, tradition and preserve historic teachings from generation to generations. Groups ranging from Afrikaner, Tswana, Pedi, Venda and Tsongas amongst others were given a platform to showcase their traditional dance and their meaning before international delegates, political and civil representatives.
Addressing attendees on behalf of the Premier, MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs Basikopo Makamu acknowledged all tribes that contributed to this diversity that the country has.
“This is the time that the past and future co-exist by celebrating customs and believes of all South Africans, we must embrace the present for the future and preserve this for generations to come. No culture nor tribe is superior to the other because we are all South Africans with equal rights and recognition.
In strengthening international relations, Zimbabwean delegate Mr Loud Ramaphapola from Beitbridge municipality expressed his gratitude by being invited by the provincial government because Zimbabwe and South Africa share common traditions.
“The invite cements the collaboration between the two countries, we are neighbors that share common cultural beliefs and customs. Most of our Zimbabweans utilize Musina town for economic activities. We not only collaborating in culture but service delivery. We have promised Musina Local Municipality to assist them with water provision because we have means to assist the Limpopo Province with such basic important need” Said Mr Ramakgapola.
Mr Ramakgapolo said this is the beginning of a long lasting collaboration between the two countries as they plan to make South Africa, especially Limpopo province one of their resident contributor to their heritage and other important things that will mutually benefit the two.
