Feeling overwhelmed by endless tasks? Dive in and share your strategies for effective delegation.

Prioritize! What I have found effective in such situations is that you have to prioritize each task in accordance with their deadline. Delegation is an excellent way to get things done in a timely manner. I will look for a team member specializing in that area and will also see if they are not already swamped with something else. But it is very important to first prioritize the tasks to be delegated and make sure that the timelines are met.

Prioritize in the extreme! I have two quick resources you can use to learn how to do this. 1. Use the Eisenhower matrix as a guide as you review every task on the list. 2. Read this book by Brian Tracy, 'Eat that frog!' Really funny, and easy to digest ;).

There are a few key areas to evaluate when deciding what to delegate: 1. Is there a task that would be better suited for someone else to complete? i.e. Do they have more knowledge on the topic than you do? Do they have more bandwidth?...etc. 2. Is there someone on your team that could benefit from completing the task? i.e. Would it be a good learning experience for them? Would it give them more exposure to leadership?...etc. 3. Are there tasks that can be removed completely? i.e. Are there repetitive tasks or meetings you continue to do out of habit, but are no longer serving your main goals? Are there nice to have tasks that, quite frankly, don't really need to get done? Free yourself, let those go...

I like to start my week my planning all the various tasks by writing them down into different groups such as reports, procurement etc. From there, I can visually see my tasks-and add new ones to the list as they come up. I can then easily determine what I need to do myself, what can be tasked to others or what I need to work with someone with. I can then assign it accordingly and cross it off my list once I know that the task has been completed. This is my simple yet effective tool that I use everyday as a form of task and time management. It is especially helpful because of the various departments that I oversee in my role.

Creation of a time management plan with scheduled interim meetings to regularly monitor the project's progress. If there are deviations from the established milestones, appropriate support measures should be offered. It is particularly important to delegate tasks to the most competent team members.
