From the course: Data-Driven Project Management: Project Metrics That Matter

What is data-driven project management?

- We're hearing the term, data-driven, a lot in business, but what does that mean? Well, there isn't really one clean definition, but there are several common themes that most people agree on. Using empirical evidence to make decisions, leveraging data to gain insights for tactical and strategic decisions, and minimizing gut feelings and opinions to guide the business. We also need to consider how data-driven decision-making relates to project management. As project managers, we're constantly making decisions on things like what trade-offs should we make for cost and schedule? What are the most important features for our products? And how much effort should we put into reducing risks? I'm a fan of having a decision-making process that the whole team agrees on. That being said, I think relying on data and sound data analysis is essential to reaching good decisions. In this course, we're going to look at a four-step process to become more data-driven. One, establish desired outcomes. Two, identify appropriate metrics, measures and key performance indicators. Three, collect and analyze data, and four, present that data. I'm looking forward to exploring this topic with you. Let's get started.
