For over a decade, Google Research has been investing in ongoing efforts to track and understand wildfires, using AI technology to provide critical information to communities, emergency responders and researchers. Earlier this year we announced that our Wildfires boundaries alerts on Search and Maps are expanding to 15 countries across Europe and Africa. Today we are excited to announce FireSat, which will be a step change in providing even more accurate information to all those involved in managing wildfires. FireSat is a purpose-built constellation of satellites designed for wildfire detection and tracking, and will offer high-resolution imagery, updated every 20 minutes, to detect wildfires as small as a classroom. Our team at Google Research — together with Muon Space, Earth Fire Alliance and Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation — are working to launch the first satellite in early 2025, with the full constellation to follow in the coming years. How about a model that could track the water stock, rate of filling and forecast of stock for Major water reserves in the world for each city based on the worlds hydrological system? That is urgent to know and right now is very disperse

1mo"using AI technology to provide critical information to communities, emergency responders and researchers" Could this include scientific research summarization that provides evidence as an information source for related issues, from practical aspects to behavioural aspects? One of the issues that struck me during CalFire's efforts to evacuate people are those that say 'No' just because an authority figure approached them. Crop damage, home insurance cancellations, animal welfare, habitat restoration, changing human behaviours towards stewardship - science hasn't solved all these fire related problems, but it would be great to know to have access to summarized knowledge in the heat of the moment.
