Aircon maintenance

Planned maintenance

One of the key aspects of managing a ventilation system is regular maintenance. By keeping ahead of the game on your ventilation system – with regularly scheduled inspections and if required, upgrades – you can make sure that you know exactly how your system is performing and where there may be shortcomings. In this way upgrades can be identified and emergencies can be kept to a minimum or ideally, eradicated altogether.

Planned Preventative Maintenance

In many cases, in order to keep within the manufacturers’ warranty for any newly-installed products, you will need to have them professionally maintained on a regular basis. Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is the way to go, as this provides regular inspections, by professionals who are experts in their field. Air conditioning is used every day and must be maintained to optimise its performance. It is an essential part of many people’s working lives and a key component of today's business world. It will also be one of your biggest overheads, but efficiencies can be made. Poorly maintained units use up to 40% more energy and have a reduced lifespan as a result of overrunning. This can be kept in check with scheduled, preventative action.

Comfortable working environment

A comfortable, ambient working environment is an essential component of a busy workplace and one that can improve or hinder productivity. Regular maintenance will ensure you have years of trouble-free operation, and in some cases, you have a legal obligation to your workforce to make sure the system is safe. As much as any other aspect of a business’ asset, it should maintained to ensure it doesn’t depreciate and become a costly liability. So many companies simply take their air-con system for granted, with no thought to overall efficiency – if it goes wrong, they’ll get it fixed. But they’re missing the bigger picture.

Enhancing efficiency

PPM results in a comfortable environment and can enhance efficiency – this is especially true of larger or more populated spaces, such schools, hospitals, restaurants, technical and computing offices, industrial environments and shops, which need to maintain a clean and temperature-controlled environment. These areas are often in a state of flux, with varying numbers of people in attendance at any given time.

Regular maintenance for air conditioning

There are a number of good reasons to implement a regular maintenance programme on your air-con system. Firstly it will ensure that the warranty will remain intact and make sure you’re compliant with UK legislation, specifically the F-gas regulations.

Knock-on efficiencies include the minimisation of power consumption, which in turn will reduce your electricity bills. It will also make sure that your system remains safe, hygienic and efficient. It will optimise your equipment, ensuring that the maximum useful life is obtained from it. The advanced warning of PPM will also provide the opportunity for any potential problems to be identified and rectified, before they escalate into a major failure that could be both dangerous and costly.

Air conditioning equipment can account for a very large percentage of a building's energy costs. Sometimes, air conditioning can even double the building’s energy consumption and its associated carbon emissions. These can both be curbed with pre-emptive action.
