Some elderly people meet, but also used to raise hands or take off their hats. In formal occasions, an administrative title or academic title should be added before the salutation. Chileans are invited to a banquet or dance and always bring a little gift. Convenience is always given to the elderly, women and children in public places. Chileans pay attention to dress neatly, and formal attire is often worn during working hours and formal occasions. The taboos are almost the same as in the West, some people think the number 13 is unlucky and prefer the number 7.
Status of the pharmaceutical market
Overview
The Chilean pharmaceutical market is mainly dominated by generic drugs. Due to the economic slowdown in recent years, consumer preference for cheaper drugs (generics) will continue to increase. On the other hand, Cenabas, the public agency responsible for the procurement of medicines in public hospitals, will increase the direct import of medicines, which can avoid the higher costs of paying local suppliers.
Pharmaceutical market
In 2015, the Chile pharmaceutical market size was valued at USD 2.4 million, of which USD 1.6 million was in retail (pharmacies) and USD 0.8 million in public health institutions such as public hospitals. Of the $1.6 million, prescription drugs accounted for 65% of the volume and 77% of the value; of which generic drugs accounted for 70%.
Chile prefers imported prepared products to APIs (less than 10% of the imported volume). In 2019, the scale of imported prescription drug products was US$1.66 million.
In 2017, the top five imported drugs were: the United States 14.5%, Germany 12.3%, Switzerland 6.22%, France 5.66%, India 5.38% (71.5 million)
As of 2018, there are 25 manufacturers (production laboratory) and 11 distributors (conditioning laboratory: labeling or secondary packaging) in Chile. In addition, Chilean law does not allow the registration of companies that simply distribute medicines. Distributors must be qualified for repackaging to register.
Including multinational companies, there are 75 pharmaceutical companies in the country. The top four are Recalcine (MKT share: 7.23%), Laboratorio Chile (6.44%), Grunenthal (6.14%), and Saval (5.84%).
The main distributors are: Socofar, Drogueria Nunoa, Farma 7, Schubert
