Facebook is changing…
You may have noticed recently when posting on Facebook that your posts aren’t reaching as many people, that is because Facebook is changing…
For better, or for worse? No, we aren’t getting wed here, in fact it feels more like a divorce after 12 solid years with Facebook, but I will stick with you Facebook, for now. Don’t do a Bebo or Myspace on me just yet.
You may need to start putting aside a budget for your social marketing. I’ve always encouraged businesses to focus on growing through social and online organically, that’s because:
1. some businesses just don’t have the budget to spend on this.
2. why pay for something when you can get the same results just by putting in more time and effort.
3. I had the knowledge for them to get those likes, comments and shares with clear call to action.
Well it’s now changing…
So how does Facebook look now, open up Facebook and you will see your friends stories across the top, then one organic post in the top spot (this will be somebody that you are friends with) and then scroll further (not even in the view when you first open the app) and you will find a sponsored ad – this is where your business posts will now sit with some advertising investment.
The good news is that Facebook now has so much data intelligence that when you advertise your business, it is guaranteed that you will get exposure and traction from the relevant people, leading to opportunities.
Don’t give up on the organic posts though, it’s important that you keep generating content whether it be a short video, a gif or even just sharing a meme from your business page. When I say you will need to put some advertising budget aside, this doesn’t mean that your business must be turning over millions. Facebook allows you to invest as little as 78p per day into your advertising – yes, the reach will be lower but by targeting the right audiences through their data intelligence tools, at least you will be targeting the right people within budget.
One last tip – if you are a business that is not capturing any email addresses or data from your customers, think today about adding that to your marketing objectives and integrating it into your TTL marketing campaigns because you own the data for your business, Facebook and social media can vanish any second – a hacker could hack your account and you lose everything you built. With email addresses, you own your data AND Facebook now allows you to target ‘lookalikes’ to your customer database through ads manager.
Let me know if you have noticed any changes with your business Facebook posts.
