Sustainable Development Using Solar Energy

In the current times, with the advancement of industrialization and technology, there has been a huge impact on the usage of natural resources in various forms. Day by day, we are increasing the usage of electricity, which takes a toll on the environment. As a step towards protecting the environment, various industries and corporates are taking multiple steps.

One easy way is to adapt solar panels in the establishments. Sun is a free source of energy and is available in abundance. Solar power can bring clean, emissions-free, and evenly distributed energy. Solar panels, also known as Photo-Voltaic (PV) module, is basically an assembly of PV cells which are mounted in a framework. Sunlight is used as a source for converting into energy by solar panels. An electrical equipment gets its power through an array of PV system which generate Solar power. To provide power, solar panels collect clean renewable energy in the form of sunlight and convert it to electricity.

Different types of Solar panels are used for different purpose and yield different results:

1st Generation Solar Panels are made of Monocrystalline Solar Panels or Polycrystalline Solar Panels and are used in conventional surroundings with an efficiency rate between 15%-20% but are expensive.

2nd Generation Solar Panels are made of Thin Film Solar Panel Cells or Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells.

3rd Generation Solar Panels, though most of them are still in the research phase are made of thin film technologies like Biohybrid Solar Cell, Cadmium Telluride Solar Cell, Concentrated PV Cell (CVP and HCVP)

The multifold advantages of using Solar energy; in addition to being environment friendly, it helps us in power saving, reduction of electricity bills, it is low maintenance, to name a few.

Solar panels can be used for a wide range of applications like solar electricity, water heating, solar ventilation, lighting, TV & radio stations, lighthouse and warning light for aircrafts, water pumps, power satellites in space.

Solar energy is a boon to the remote areas where electricity is still not available. In areas with limited clean water supplies, it is also used to distil water. Not just that, today many housing societies are using solar panels for water heating for their residents. Portable solar PV chargers, phones and watches have also started gaining momentum.

Recently, NASA gave a statement wherein a French astronaut and an American astronaut completed a six-hour spacewalk as they installed new solar panels to boost power supplies to the International Space Station (ISS). This truly is aspirational and can be adapted by us in all walks of life.

In the current situation, more and more people are becoming responsible and adapting to the usage of Solar energy in and around them. One such company is Millennium Semiconductors India Private Limited; a 25-year-old distributor of electronic components who as a start to sustainable living has installed solar panels at their latest warehouse in Noida.

The 32KV capacity solar panels are installed at the Noida facility, generate electricity for the office as well as the warehouse. In last three months, it has generated 2400KW and has saved carbon emission of 5.82 tons. This is just the beginning. Millennium’s aim is to build and propagate sustainable facilities to control the carbon footprint.

With many many such companies taking such initiatives, we are on the right path to conserve our environment and look for a brighter future.
