Manchester City are reportedly set to hand Nathan Ake a new contract.

The central defender has just finished a brilliant campaign that saw him play a key role in the hunt for the Treble.

Ake was a regular on the left of City’s defence.

He had a couple of injury problems towards the end of the season which saw Manuel Akanji deputise for him.

But Ake put in many stellar performances throughout 2022/23, and the Dutchman has been lauded by fans for being so brilliantly consistent.

And now, it looks as though City are planning to reward Ake for his superb work over the past year.

Nathan Ake now in line for new contract at Manchester City

According to The Athletic, Ake is in line for a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The publication has done a squad audit piece, and there is a line on the former Bournemouth man about him getting a new deal.

At the moment, Ake’s current contract with City expires in the summer of 2025. That was the deal he signed when he first arrived at the club in a £41 million deal.

This update follows news that Stefan Ortega Moreno is also set for a new contract at the club.

Apparently, the number two has really impressed coaches. He is in line to get a pay rise, taking him on to £85,000-a-week.

Nathan Ake getting a new contract from Man City would be thoroughly deserved

So it looks as though City are ready to reward Ake – and it would be no less than he deserves.

When Ake signed for City, plenty of eyebrows were raised. How could the club spend £41 million on someone who had just been relegated?

Ake did struggle a bit during his early days at City. He was certainly low down in the pecking order.

But he has now become a top, top defender, who Pep Guardiola really trusts. Recently, Micah Richards branded him ‘immense’. Jamie Carragher also said that Liverpool could do with a player like him.

He has been utterly fantastic in that role of left-sided centre-back, and has actually really improved going forwards.

It would be brilliant to see him get a new contract. And not only is Ake a brilliant footballer, he is also perhaps the nicest player City have. It would be so good to see.
