WARE -- Voters will decide whether to approve borrowing to pay for an estimated $4.5 million renovation at the aging municipal wastewater treatment plant at a special town meeting Tuesday evening.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Kanzaki Specialty Papers says it will pay $1 million; town officials say Ware would pay $1 million. The project is contingent on a state grant of about $2.5 million.
Kanzaki proposed the idea after federal and state environmental regulators told the company they must drastically reduce the concentration of heavy metals sent to the municipal treatment plant. The company had previously agreed to build a pre-treatment facility to satisfy the regulators.
