CHICOPEE - The School Committee re-elected two members to leadership positions with no controversy and little debate last week.
The 10-0 votes taken at the annual reorganization meeting elected Marjorie Wojcik as vice chairwoman and Sandra Peret as the representative to city government. No other members were nominated for the positions.
The mayor automatically serves as chairman according to the city charter.
Wojcik has served as vice chairwoman since 2011 when she was offered as a compromise candidate. The year before the board was so divided, the election of a vice chairman deadlocked the 12-member committee for a month.
Wojcik, a long-term member, has also served previous terms as vice chairwoman during her tenure.
The vice chairwoman's main job is to run meetings when the mayor is absent.
The representative to city government generally serves as a liaison between the City Council and the School Committee. Peret has served in the position for at least two years.
She attends most City Council meetings and speaks to the councilors if an issue, such as the recent plan to replace three school roofs, comes up for discussion.
