New Polar Park details include a heart-shaped clock, smiley foul poles and year-round nightlife

Buried among the merchandise, a WooSox nickname and a logo paying tribute to Harvey Ball, David Ortiz and Ted Williams, the Worcester Red Sox released new detailed renderings of Polar Park during its hour special on NESN Monday.

Details for the park, which broke ground in July and is expected to open in the spring of 2021, were provided in an 11-minute video that offered a virtual tour of the stadium, which was described as grabbing influences from Fenway Park, Camden Yards and Wrigley Field.

A park will take over the former spot of the General Pickett parking lot on Green Street.

As fans approach the city from downtown Worcester toward Green Street, the General Pickett parking lot will soon become a park.

“It will add a splash of green on Green Street,” President of the Worcester Red Sox Charles Steinberg said.

Beyond the logo, Harvey Ball’s influence also appears in the ballpark. A yellow smiley will be attached to both the right and left field foul poles.

Polar Park's Worcester Wall

"A mini monster," Polar Park will feature an iconic wall, but this will be in right field rather than left field.

The local ties are also in center field with a Polar Selzter can in appearing near the hitter’s eye. A wall in right field - not left - will be called the “Worcester Wall.”

“Our own mini monster,” Steinberg said.

A roofing system will provide shade and cover for fans. The overhang jets out from the top of the stadium but allows for an open-air atmosphere as well. Polar Park will also feature a quiet room to allow fans that are sensitive to loud noises a place to watch the game.
