Fran Lebowitz Addresses Comment About Turning Trump Over to Saudis in Maher Overtime Segment: ‘I Regret Saying It’
On Real Time with Bill Maher last night, Fran Lebowitz mocked President Donald Trump and suggested he deserves to suffer the same fate as Jamal Khashoggi.
In talking with Maher about what Trump deserves, Lebowitz said, “I think we should turn him over to the Saudis. You know, his buddies. The same Saudis who got rid of that reporter. You know, maybe they could do the same for him.”
Lebowitz joined the rest of Maher’s guests for the online-only Overtime segment later and responded after being told about the “blowback on Twitter.”
“I saw your face when I said it, I didn’t realize that I said it,” she told Maher. “I had 12 cups of coffee, I regret saying it.”
Maher said, in response to the online outrage, “It’s a live show. You don’t really want to see the president dismembered by the Saudis.”
He went on to say, “No matter who the president is, we do not want physical harm to come to him.”
Lebowitz said again, “I did not mean that and I regret saying it and I regret that everyone misinterpreted it because they misinterpret everything.”
