Show Notes
This was the fourth Helping Hands Concert & Auction, an event benefiting All Within My Hands and their dedication to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.
Metallica played two sets — the first was acoustic, while the second was electric.
All five acoustic songs featured Avi Vinocur and Henry Salvia.
This was the first time “Low Man’s Lyric” had been played in over 26 years. The deep cut from ReLoad was last performed on September 13, 1998, in San Diego, CA.
This was also the first time in over 26 years that an acoustic version of “Helpless” was performed. The last acoustic performance was on May 7, 1998, in Tokyo, Japan, while the last electric version was played on April 7, 2018, in Stuttgart, Germany.
This was the live debut of “Away From Home,” a cover of an old Bachman-Turner Overdrive song from 1975.
This was the live debut of the acoustic arrangement of “If Darkness Had a Son.” The song featured SistaStrings on violin & cello.
SistaStrings also joined the band for a performance of “Nothing Else Matters.”
This was the first time “The Shortest Straw” had been performed in nearly three years. It was last played on December 17, 2021, in San Francisco, CA.
This was the first time in over 25 years that “Until It Sleeps” was performed in Southern California.
This was the first time that “Screaming Suicide” was played in Los Angeles.
This was the first time “The Unforgiven II” had been performed in over nine years. It was last played on September 16, 2015, in Quebec City. This performance was only the seventh time that the song had been played live.
Avi Vinocur provided “B-Bender Support” on “The Unforgiven II.”
This was the live debut of a reimagination of “Fuel,” featuring James on baritone guitar with support from Avi Vinocur and Henry Salvia.
Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament and his 12-string bass joined the band for a rendition of “Hit the Lights.”
Jason Momoa and his kids "rushed the stage" (tongue firmly planted in cheek) during "Master of Puppets" and rocked out in front of James throughout the song. Prior to the kick off of Metallica's set, Jason had very enthusiastically introduced the band.
