A young Roman man lies on a stone bench next to a seated girl; she has roses in her lap and holds fingers to her lips. A thin strip of sea and coastline is visible in the distance, over the edge of the bench. Based on an oil on canvas dated November 1876, now at the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.
