May I humbly suggest throwing some moving blankets or something on the wings when doing this sort of thing. Saves tears.

Paul,

I am doing the Rivergate conversion. Just to add, I gotta say, after using the Oberg tilt lift, I could not have taken the engine/trans outta that car myself without it. it was absolutely perfect for the (one man) job.

Paul,

I am doing the Rivergate conversion. I have the Datsun 210 gearbox and the Rivergate adapter plate kit. I also opted to get the starter, (so as not to cut a hole in the bell housing) I also got the slave cylinder kit they supply, but I'm not sure whether or not I'll try to use/adapt the original, or go with the kit - at this point I'm not sure which way I'm going to go. Just to add, I gotta say, after using the Oberg tilt lift, I could not have taken the engine/trans outta that car myself without it. it was absolutely perfect for the (one man) job.

I have done the conversion using Gerards kit. I was very satisfied with the results with one exception. I am still fighting issues with the slave cylinder and the resulting feel of the clutch. For me it feels to "soft" hard to tell just when it engages and disengages. Its obvious in driving but just feels to have too much peddle travel. I haven't got it sorted out to do more than a short drive so far (1st to 2nd) but hope to work it out this spring. Good luck.

Rick,

I did the Rivergate kit. Used his slave cylinder and the remote bleeder Will also sells.
Whether you buy it from Will or fab one up yourself from ss hose or hardline you will appreciate the connivence.
Here’s a pic, his bracket is bolted to a piece of alum angle i cut to mount it. Also put a 90degree adapt on the slave to get the hose going up.

My clutch is ok, different than stock, decent feel and predictable take up from stop. Could be a better feel but works fine.

There’s a long post here on the complete Rivergate install process. Lots of pics, worthwhile, pretty recent.

Well... I got the adapter plate installed on the engine per the instructions, it seems to have gone pretty smooth.

didn't have a puller for the pilot bushing (it's actually a needle bearing) I got it about 1/3 of the way out by prying with a screw driver on opposite sides and then it wouldn't go any further. So, I ended up wrecking it confused smiley hacked it up. the pilot (needle) bearing. Need to remove it .... not sure if a puller will work now - its all distorted,

any suggestions on removing the rest of the needle bearing ??
