MISD board mulls deficit options

A number of options were on the table on Monday evening as the Midlothian ISD board of trustees addressed ways to reduce a projected 2025-2026 budget deficit of about $5.45 million during the board’s third budget meeting of the year. “We’ve got a major deficit, and we’ve got to figure out how to overcome it,” board president Gary Vineyard said.

Ag commissioner to sponsor Country Festival

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the city of Waxahachie announced their sponsorship of the 2025 Crossroads of Texas GO TEXAN Country Festival, a celebration of Lone Star State talent, agriculture, heritage, creativity and community. “For a quarter of a century, Waxahachie has been the proud home of what has grown into the largest one-day festival in Texas,” said Commissioner Miller.

County to consider new animal shelter bid

The Ellis County Commissioners’ Court will need another two weeks to finalize its efforts to establish a new animal sheltering service for the county. After almost an hour of discussion during Tuesday’s regular bi-weekly meeting, the court voted unanimously to cancel a bid award to So, Fetch Safe Haven and reissue a revised request for proposals that reduces the scope of the county’s involvement.
