Is Your Explicit Content Out There?

hero banner, cell phone, apps, social media

NCMEC is Looking for Your Input!

Would you be willing to participate in an anonymous 6-question survey about how NCMEC can best help people whose nude or sexual content has been shared online?

Overview

Having nudes or sexually-exploitive images or videos taken when you were a child out there on the internet can be frightening and overwhelming, but there is hope to get it taken down.

Survivors often say the process to get images down can be complicated, time consuming or feel invasive, but NCMEC is here to help and you can report the images or videos to our CyberTipline. You can also report the images or videos directly to the companies. On this page you can find tips for both options.

NCMEC also offers a service called Take It Down, which helps remove nude, partially nude or sexually explicit photos and videos of underage people by assigning a unique digital fingerprint, called a hash value, to the images or videos. Online platforms can use those hash values to detect these images or videos on their public or unencrypted services and take action to remove this content. Learn more about how to use the service here.

Help from NCMEC

NCMEC has a team of analysts dedicated to speeding up the process of getting the images down and helping remove some of that burden.

NCMEC can:

  • report directly to companies
  • monitor for takedown
  • continue to send additional notices about images on your behalf

In 2021, we sent 75,000+ notices to companies. On average, images were taken down within 27 hours. To report the sexually-exploitive images/videos of you to NCMEC visit the CyberTipline.

FAQ

How do I report an image or a video on the CyberTipline?

In your report, you will need to report the image location to NCMEC. To do this, right click on the image and select either “Copy Image Location” or “Copy Image Address.”

What information do I have to include in the report?

In the CyberTipline report, make sure to say there are nude or exploitive images/videos of you online and you want help to get the images removed.

What if I was over the age of 18 when the images were created?

There is hope. These images are often referred to as non-consensual intimate imagery. While NCMEC’s resources are for minors, there are others who can help adults such as the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative
Revenge Porn Hotline – based out of UK.

Victims and families often need additional support finding resources and figuring out the next steps and NCMEC can also help with that. If you need resources or someone to talk to, please click here.

Reporting

You can also report the images and videos to the companies on your own. Companies are required to provide a way for people to notify them and request the removal of certain online content, including images/videos. Below is a list of common social media sites, along with company information, resources, and tools to help remove your sexually-exploitive images/videos.

To make a complaint about cached content on Google:

Once an image/video has been removed from a website, the content may continue to appear in Google search results. This happens because Google takes a snapshot of each page and caches (stores) that version. It may take some time for Google to revisit the webpage to update its cache which is why your image/video may continue to show up in Google results even though it’s been removed from the website.

Submit a request to Google to have a cached page removed:
