Domino’s Pizza is upping its technology game with a new iPad ordering application.
The Ann Arbor Township-based company launched its free iPad app Monday. It features a 3D custom pizza builder that uses animation software to show customers what their pizza will look like.
“The new Domino’s iPad app takes the experience of ordering pizza to a whole new level,” said Kevin Vasconi, Domino’s Pizza chief information officer, in a statement.
“This is the coolest technology we have launched since Domino’s Tracker.”
Digital ordering now accounts for about 40 percent of Domino’s Pizza’s sales in the U.S. The company already has iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Kindle Fire ordering apps.
Domino's employs about 550 people at its headquarters in the Domino's Farms Office Park, and the company is scouting talented workers in southeast Michigan to help staff its rapidly growing technology division.
Domino’s CEO Patrick Doyle said the technology department at the company’s headquarters accounts for about 170 jobs.
In addition to the 3D custom pizza builder, the new iPad app offers location-based store locator, coupon search, direct access to track an order via Domino’s Tracker, and Pizza Profiles, which allows customers the ability to save information and easily place their favorite order.
Domino’s reported a net income of $143 million in 2013, up 27 percent over 2012. Domino’s has more than 10,800 stores in more than 70 international markets.
