ALLEN PARK -- Jared Goff, the new quarterback of the Lions, will address reporters in Detroit for the first time Friday afternoon.
Goff is scheduled to speak at a 1 p.m. introductory press conference, which the team will stream through its YouTube account. Matthew Stafford will have his introductory press conference over in Los Angeles at the same time, for what it’s worth. The Stafford-Goff trade was made official on Thursday morning after being reported for weeks. Detroit gets two future first-round picks (2022 and 2023) and LA’s compensatory third-round selection (Pick 101) in this year’s draft in addition to Goff.
Goff, 26, comes with five seasons and 69 starts after going No. 1 overall to the Rams in 2016. He’s made two Pro Bowls, starting in a Super Bowl along the way. His cap hit will be $25.3 million this season and then $25.5 million in 2022. That’s where the Lions could get out scot-free, with 2023 and 2024 having no guarantees.

This post will continue to update once things get underway. If there are any other speakers in addition to Goff, the author will bold their names. Hit refresh to keep up with quotes and other notable happenings from today’s presser:
Coach Dan Campbell is up first, we’re getting underway: “Some of these additions that we’ve added, man, they fit that criteria (grit/football character).” Campbell singing the praises of the team’s new additions and re-signings before introducing Goff.
Campbell says Michael Brockers, Tim Boyle and Jamaal Williams are in Allen Park getting their physicals. He adds that Brockers can wield the power of Thor.
Says Goff has three main pillars he loves, in that he’s “tough, durable and, most importantly, he’s a winner. He knows how to win.”
“I know he’s hungry. We are thrilled to have this guy.”
Jared Goff’s turn: New quarterback is rocking a blue Lions polo, thanking Sheila Ford Hamp, Rod Wood, Brad Holmes and Campbell. Goff says the past couple of days in Detroit have been invigorating, and that he already feels the need for a winner in this city.
“My background is doing everything you can every single do to be prepared on Sunday. That’s always kind of been my mantra, leave no stone unturned.
“It’s a very exciting time for me, and I hope Lions fans are excited as well.”
Goff on his long-term future in Detroit: “I know they are both very excited to have me, and that’s all you can ask for ... "
Goff: “I know you guys are going to throw that word around (rebuild), but I don’t see it that way at all.”
Goff on if he’s spoken with Sean McVay or Les Snead since the trade happened: “I’ve spoken about this publicly ... I don’t want to harp too much on this, but I will say this, I have spoken to them ... There’s no ill will, I want to move forward with my life and career.”
Goff says he’s texted with both of Detroit’s free-agent additions at wide receiver (Williams and Perriman), and is looking forward to getting to work with them once the league sets protocol. Adds that he’s texted with a lot of new teammates here, including those who have played here in the past. Says he and Stafford spoke after the trade, too.
Goff said the trade definitely adds a little chip to your shoulder and motivation from the trade, despite being thankful of his time in LA.
Goff not speaking to the team’s offense, will leave that to the coaches, but is excited to work with the new staff. He spoke with Dan Campbell the night of the trade, and has started picking brains up and down the staff.
“One of the things I’m excited about is to put my fingerprint on things here.”
Says he wants to get this franchise over the top, when asked about the championship drought as extra motivation.
“I was disappointed for like two minutes (about the trade),” and then he spoke to Detroit’s brass and felt “all right, this is where I’m supposed to be.”
Goff is looking around for houses in the area, once again speaking to the excitement he’s felt since landing in Detroit.
“I think the pieces are there, and I’m a big part of that,” Goff said when once again downplaying the idea this is a rebuild.
Brad Holmes will answer a few questions before today’s presser concludes:
Holmes said he’s happy to welcome Goff to a franchise for the second time, adding that it’s through a big trade for the second time as well. Talking back to their previous relationship in LA, says Goff used to pop his head into the college scouting room and ask about any potential Cal bears on the team’s board.
Holmes on potential restructuring for Goff: “All of that has been taking into place, with respect to the process we’ll keep those in-house.”
Holmes on Jared Goff: Seeing him now, I do expect him to come in and be our starting quarterback. I don’t see anything other than that. Adds that the team won’t ignore any positions at Pick 7 regardless of Goff’s addition.
Holmes has no comment on Kenny Golladay.
Holmes on what can help get Goff back on track: “I’m not sure if I’m following where actually dropped, not sure about the ‘get back.’ He’s won a lot of games in his tenure with the Rams, Jared just has to be Jared.”
Holmes isn’t going to comment on what went wrong for Goff and the Rams, rather focused on moving forward in Detroit.
That’ll do it for today’s press conference
