BAY CITY — The early afternoon fire at Bay City Hall Tuesday started in the attic and was burning for an unknown amount of time, according to Bay City Fire Chief Gregory Michalek.

Michalek said the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but it may have been electrical.

Initial reports of smoke on the fourth floor came in around 12:45 p.m. Personnel from the Bay City, Bangor Township, Hampton Township, Monitor Township, Saginaw, Buena Vista Township, Zilwaukee and Portsmouth Township fire departments responded to the fire.

Bay City Clerk Dana Muscott said motors in the attic could be to blame for the reported fire.

The motors are used to draw air out of the structure. Muscott added she does not think the current roof construction had anything to do with the fire.
