MUSKEGON, MI - The first retail tenant in the new Heritage Square Commons downtown Muskegon will be a well-known women's boutique.
Downtown Muskegon's Skye Blu Boutique is ready to expand after three years inside the Century Club Shops on West Western Avenue.
Skye Blu will occupy one of four retail spaces in the Heritage Square development by Gary Post, which wraps the corner of Second Street and Clay Avenue. Ten high-end townhomes face Clay while four retail units and four residential units will face Second.
The clothing and jewelry boutique will open in its new, larger location in late April, said owner Cindy Darcy. The new store is about 700 square feet, while the current one is about 240 square feet.
"I've just outgrown my space ... I'm just in awe of the response from the community," she said.
Darcy made the announcement to customers via email and then on Facebook on Thursday, March 15.
The move will allow her to offer more options, such as expanded pant offerings - the boutique currently only carries leggings - more dresses and accessories.
"I'm going to have more of the things that people have said they're looking for - I'm listening to my customers and what they want," Darcy said.
Darcy opened Skye Blu inside the shopping center, which is also owned by Post, in April 2015.
She's preparing for the relocation with a moving sale, with some items already priced at cost.
The store is open Tuesday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Heritage Square Commons is part of the downtown Muskegon renaissance that includes a multitude of construction projects from Lake View Lofts on West Western across from the Century Club to Berkshire Muskegon senior living to Highpoint Flats apartments and the Muskegon Community College downtown campus.
