BAY CITY, MI — An early morning fire in a Bay City high-rise apartment building has resulted in two people being hospitalized.

Bay City firefighters responded to the reported fire at Pine Towers, 306 S. Walnut St. on the city’s West Side, about 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. The fire was reported to have been in an apartment on the building’s ninth floor.

Upon arrival, crews found two victims. One, a female resident of the involved unit, suffered burns. The other person resided in another apartment on the same floor and suffered smoke inhalation.

Both victims were taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital, with the burned woman later transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for ongoing treatment, said Fire Chief Kurt Corradi.

The fire itself was contained to one apartment and crews had it extinguished quickly, Corradi said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Mutual aid was provided by Bangor and Monitor townships’ fire departments. No firefighters were injured.
