The general story on this weekend is sunny and warm. There will be a period of thundershowers for a small area of Michigan. Boaters on the east side of Michigan will need to know a northeast wind will be increasing.
While the wind is rarely the most important weather condition you want to know, this weekend’s wind drives all of the other weather features.
First, boaters on Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron should be aware that a vigorous northeast wind is going to develop out of the blue. The wind gust forecast shows a 20 mph to 30 mph wind gust pattern developing by early Saturday afternoon. This northeast wind will start to blow in somewhat cooler temperatures to the east side of Lower Michigan.
As the northeast wind becomes more established over all of Lower Michigan Sunday, we will have slowly cooling temperatures also on Sunday.
The slightly cooler northeast wind will move into southern Lower and southwest Lower. When the cooler air undercuts the hotter, humid air, an area of thundershowers will develop Saturday afternoon. The forecast below gives you a great feel for where thundershowers are possible Saturday. Big Rapids, Muskegon, Grand Rapids into the southwest corner and then along I-94 could have a half hour to one hour thundershower Saturday afternoon.
The rest of Michigan will be dry both Saturday and Sunday.
We still don’t have high humidity levels in our air so the overnight temperatures cool off. Saturday morning will start beautiful and warm quickly from around 60 degrees to the 70s by late morning.
Saturday afternoon will be very warm over southwest Lower Michigan and comfortably warm over the rest of eastern Lower.
Sunday morning could be a little chilly! Some of us will wake up to temperatures in the 40s.
Look for temperatures to be quite a bit cooler Sunday and very comfortable for summer.
So in all it is going to be a great weekend of weather across Michigan. There will be just a few changes to the weather pattern of the past week.
