“In the evening performance, we are featuring students in our Center-Based Programs, eighth grade and above, from the Educational Center and Transition Center (which includes the Educational Center and Whitman Center and out-county classrooms),” Laurel Rosen-Weatherford, a board-certified music therapist at the ISD, said.
Several past ISD educators also will join the celebration, including Angela Snell, Cathy Kava, Elaine Mink, Joyce Potter, Sue Pickens, Lisa Cielinski and Brenda Swathell.
Snell also will be a guest conductor. She retired in 2021 after 33 years as a music therapist at the ISD.
“We will have Angela Snell returning to help lead our Alumni Chimes Choir comprised of students who have graduated from our Educational Center over the past 50 years,” Rosen-Weatherford said.
Also performing will be local musicians Kevin Daniels, Myrna Allen Austin, Katie Bourbina and Ben Delong.
The ISD began celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Educational Center on April 19 with a rededication of its memorial garden and unveiling of new artwork. Another anniversary program will take place Thursday morning.
