The year of eternal summer will arrive at 10 a.m., May 6, at Cedar Point as it will debut its integrative all new Boardwalk Midway and Wild Mouse Roller Coaster in time for the opening of its 154th season.
The Boardwalk aims to take guests back in time to the Cedar Point of the 1950s, complete with beachy summer vibes, hilarious characters and recreations of its historical Wild Mouse Rollercoaster and Grand Pavilion.
Tony Clark, communications director for Cedar Point, said during a media event May 4 that the spinning family coaster Wild Mouse sits as the pinnacle to the celebration with its 1,312 feet of orange track.
“Riders will have the chance to board one of six, mouse-themed cars, and one cheese car that spins along the track from a height of 52 feet tall at speeds of 35 mph” Clark said. “The best part, however, is never any ride through is the same.”
Clark explained that due to the modern technology that helps the coaster incorporate more hills, twists, dives and hairpin turns, each ride experience will be unique depending on the number of riders, the placement and the car itself.
In addition to the Wild Mouse, two family rides have been relocated to the Boardwalk Midway: Atomic Scrambler and Matterhorn, joining rides Calypso, Giant Wheel, Troika, GateKeeper and Dodgem hitting every thrill level.
“Where the two rides were originally, we have relayed the area with grass and greenery,” Clark said. “Walking through the park, you would never know that there were rides there, just like how you would never know that this area is new.”
The grand anchor to the Boardwalk Midway is the Cedar Point Grand Pavilion, a two-story dining and relaxation masterpiece that pays homage to its historic namesake from 1888.
On its main level, guests can enjoy a plethora of hand-crafted culinary items before making their way upstairs to the waterfront bar and massive outdoor patios.
“This is an incredible new menu that we are bringing with the Grand Pavilion,” said RJ Sinwald, executive chef for Cedar Point since 2019. “We wanted to add to that beachy atmosphere with lighter food that still packs in all the flavor.”
Upon entry to the Grand Pavilion, guests are first greeted by large vertical rotisserie spins of fresh turkey, pork loins and chicken going through.
“From there, we have all kinds of signature treats from steak fries, to funnel cake, shrimp, grilled pineapple and an incredible list of desserts from our new pastry chef Elka Kunuk,” Sinwald said.
The new two-tier state-of-the-art kitchen system could allow Cedar Point to offer catering options in the future, something Sinwald said he could not be more excited about.
And of course, the Boardwalk Midway could not be complete without the atmosphere of a storybook beach vacation complete with all new performers gracing the area with smiles and shows.
“These characters are made to give the feeling of infinite summer,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “You come to the area and feel like it, and they have been here forever, and it truly puts you in a different world.”
Cedar Point will welcome guests to its more than 360 acres of rides, shows, attractions, shops, on-site hotels and more.
